JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Information Technology is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and execution of all information technology functions supporting Clin-Path Diagnostics LLC and affiliated laboratory operations. This role oversees enterprise IT systems supporting anatomic pathology, molecular diagnostics (including NGS), flow cytometry, FISH, IHC, digital pathology, laboratory instrumentation, and client-facing systems.

The Director of Information Technology ensures the reliability, security, scalability, and regulatory compliance of all IT systems while supporting business growth, operational efficiency, and major strategic initiatives. This position manages IT staff, vendors, and budgets, and serves as the primary owner of IT strategy, infrastructure, cybersecurity, LIS platforms, and enterprise integrations.

Employees are responsible for following all Company policies and procedures, including adherence to regulatory standards such as CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable state and federal requirements.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
IT Strategy & Leadership
  1. Develop and execute the organization’s IT strategy aligned with laboratory operations and business objectives.
  2. Serve as the senior IT leader responsible for governance, prioritization, and roadmap planning.
  3. Provide leadership and direction to IT staff, including systems administrators, help desk, and project personnel.
  4. Establish performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and support staff development.
  5. Partner with executive, laboratory, and operational leadership to support growth initiatives.

Infrastructure, Cloud & Systems
  1. Oversee all IT infrastructure including servers, networks, storage (cloud and on-premises), virtualization, and backups.
  2. Ensure high availability, performance, and disaster recovery for critical laboratory systems.
  3. Manage data storage solutions supporting digital pathology, imaging, and molecular data.
  4. Oversee system monitoring, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  5. Ensure appropriate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.

Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) & Instrument Interfaces
  1. Own the administration, support, and optimization of the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  2. Oversee LIS integrations with laboratory instrumentation, digital pathology platforms, and molecular systems.
  3. Manage client EMR interfaces, including onboarding, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  4. Coordinate LIS upgrades, validation, and testing in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  5. Serve as escalation point for complex LIS and interface issues.

Cybersecurity & Compliance
  1. Establish and maintain a comprehensive cybersecurity program.
  2. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CAP, CLIA, and applicable data security standards.
  3. Oversee access controls, user management, and audit logging.
  4. Manage vulnerability assessments, incident response, and remediation activities.
  5. Coordinate cybersecurity training and awareness initiatives.

Help Desk & End-User Support
  1. Oversee help desk operations ensuring timely and effective user support.
  2. Establish service levels, ticketing processes, and escalation pathways.
  3. Ensure standardization of workstation configurations and peripheral support.
  4. Monitor user satisfaction and identify opportunities for improvement.

IT Project Management
  1. Lead and prioritize major IT projects, including:
    • Digital pathology initiatives
    • LIS replacements or upgrades
    • Infrastructure modernization
    • Client EMR integrations
  2. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  3. Coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors, and consultants.
  4. Maintain project documentation and executive reporting.

Development & Automation
  1. Oversee internal development efforts, scripting, and automation to improve efficiency.
  2. Support custom reporting, data extraction, and system enhancements as needed.
  3. Ensure development activities follow change management and validation requirements.

Financial & Vendor Management
  1. Develop and manage the IT budget.
  2. Monitor and control IT-related costs, contracts, and licensing.
  3. Evaluate and manage vendor relationships and service agreements.
  4. Ensure cost-effective solutions while maintaining system reliability and security.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT:
  1. Ability to sit, stand, and work in office and laboratory environments.
  2. Ability to respond to system issues outside normal business hours as required.
  3. Must be able to work in a regulated clinical laboratory environment.
  4. Occasional lifting of equipment up to 30 lbs
 
EQUIPMENT USED:
  1. Servers, network equipment, and storage systems
  2. Computers and standard office equipment
  3. Diagnostic and monitoring tools
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Direct supervision of IT personnel (help desk, systems, project staff)
  • Oversight of vendors and consultants

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field required
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive IT experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years in an IT leadership or management role
  • Experience supporting clinical laboratories or healthcare environments
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • LIS platforms and laboratory interfaces
    • Network and systems architecture
    • Cybersecurity and HIPAA compliance
  • Proven project management experience
